Choosing a Method for Configuring Your Driver
If you are not upgrading from the S_7 6.x driver or migrating from the SL4 driver,
you can start configuring the SI7 driver by selecting a configuration method. The SI7
I/O driver can be configured in several ways. The best method for you depends on
how you decide to configure your process control system. The following table lists
the driver configuration methods to choose from:
Method When to use
Using the Power Tool If you are familiar with your
process hardware and want to
make a detailed configuration.
Creating Datablocks
from Database
Manager
If you are using FIX/iFIX for
process control and you know:
• The names of the devices
that have been configured.
• The registers and
addresses in the devices
that you want to access.
Using a Visual Basic
Client Application
If you are using a custom
automation application built
with a scripting language such
as Microsoft® Visual Basic®
to configure the driver and
access data.
